A team in Utah has never been ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps.com Xcellent top 25 for football, baseball or basketball, but that changed as the Lone Peak High School boys basketball team got the top ranking.

Lone Peak got jumped to the top spot from No. 2 last week, due in part to previously No. 1 Simeon High School's loss to DeSoto. MaxPreps.com is saying Simeon looked surprisingly sluggish in the loss.

Lone Peak will take on Callaway, the defending 5A state champions of Mississippi on Wednesday, in the City of Palms Classic.

Lone Peak currently has a record of 7-0.

Lone Peak may be the first BOYS team ranked number one in the State, but I do believe Mountain View High School Girls basketball was THE FIRST UTAH high school basketball team ranked number one in the nation back in the '90s.

I think you're right...that Mountain View team with a pair of tall twins 10 or so years ago. I also think Alta High has had a few of its girls soccer teams either at No. 1 or 2 nationally.

But a forgivable mistake for the DN sports More..

The Mtn. View team was the one with Michelle Harrison who was a McDonalds All American. Lone Peak is a very good team, hopefully they can show well in Florida.
