High school boys basketball: 1A team-by-team region capsules

The 2012-2013 high school basketball season gets underway this Tuesday with 25 games around the state. To prepare fans what should be another exciting season, the Deseret News has put together capsules for every team in 1A.

Every coach was invited to participate and submit information. The region rankings are based on coaches' preseason projections.

Region 17 Capsules

1. Layton Christian Academy

Coach: Bobby Porter (11th year)

2011-2012 Record: 14-9 (1st in Region 17 with 8-0)

2012 Postseason: Beat Bryce Valley in 1A championship game, 64-58

Coach Comment: “We will be a fun team to watch. Our schedule will include South Sevier, Freemont, Ben Lomond, Roy, West High and South Summit — just to name a few schools. How good we are will be determined by how quickly we pick up our defensive concepts. We have added Tanaka Beard to our coaching staff replacing Ed Thompson, who was my top assistant coach for 10 years. I look forward to a fun season.”

2. St. Joseph High School

Coach: Chad Loosemore

2011-2012 Record: 7-14 record (3rd in Region 17 with 4-4 record)

2012 Postseason: Lost to Monticello in 1A first round, 57-36
