Blogs could be seen as a vehicle for people to count their blessings (sometimes daily) throughout the year. So it’s unsurprising to me to see so many people taking to social media to exclaim their gratitude (there are so many countdown Facebook posts, to give you an idea of what I’m talking about).
In this vein, I want to highlight some wonderful examples of online “attitudes of gratitude” as well as some creative crafts to brighten your Thanksgiving table and some scrumptious recipes to help fill it.
Thanksgiving testimony: Although three years old now, I must still start with this wonderful Mormon Message video “In the Spirit of Thanksgiving.” It is still a favorite and means even a bit more this year as New Yorkers and others are still cleaning up from Sandy, and likely finding small things of which to be grateful. I invite you and your family to make watching this beautiful video part of your Thanksgiving tradition.
And this blogger beautifully illustrates the power behind the injuction to “count your blessings.” She quotes President Thomas S. Monson, president of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who said “Think to thank. In these three words you have the finest capsule course for a happy marriage, the formula for enduring friendships, and a pattern for personal happiness.” Click to read the entire essay.
Thanksgiving crafts: This description of a “Thanksgiving Crafting FAIL” not only made me smile, but it still provides some cute craft ideas. Oh, but that accidental reference to no I’ll let you just find out by clicking in.
This “DIY Thanksgiving Décor: Framed Blessings” craft would be a perfect way to showcase how your family counts its blessings. And it’s so darling. And it can be changed each and every year. I just love it.
Finally, this “Thanksgiving Mad Libs Printable” is so clever as it can help your kids do something while they wait for the dinner to be set, and can provide laughs and memories along the way. Click in to print it out.
Thanksgiving table: Start with our best bites’ “Thanksgiving Round-up 2012” for pretty much an entire spread of most every recipe you need to make a glorious dinner. It just makes my mouth water.
Then check out these “Gluten-free Thanksgiving Desserts” ideas if you are needing to prepare something a bit different. Or if you are looking for something easy, just throw in pumpkin, whipped cream, spice and pudding into a crust to make this “Tasty Recipe for Turkey Day.” And if you need something more glamorous, try this “Artisan Cornbread Stuffing with Apples.” Finally, these “No Fail Thanksgiving Sweet Potatoes” promise to be a winner.
Now let’s give thanks for more Bloggernacle posts:
Power pick: I was floored by this new Bible Video, “For God So Loved the World,” a conglomeration of clips that, as the description says, prompts us to “Give thanks for the Lord Jesus Christ: His life, His atoning sacrifice, and His resurrection.” It’s absolutely glorious.
Techie tip: I’ve seen and spotlighted some of these “LDS Temple Models in 3D” but love how Larry Richman gives background, links, and even the artists own experiences compiling these technical marvels: “Brian tells me he has a fascination with Mormon temples. He has temple photos throughout the house and takes crazy road trips with his wife and 2 kids just to photograph temples. Those pictures then become the reference and surface for the models. In 2005, he picked up the open source 3D modeling software Blender. He made a basic model of the Mount Timpanogos Temple and was so excited at the results that he then spent several months rebuilding the Salt Lake Temple in detail in 3D.” Very cool.
