WEST VALLEY CITY — Firefighters made quick work of a grass fire that ignited near I-215 and 2400 South during the afternoon commute Monday.
West Valley City Fire Marshal Bob Fitzgerald said strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly.
"It went from about 2400 South all the way to (state Route) 201, three blocks in a matter of minutes," Fitzgerald said. "And it was probably, in some spots, a couple of hundred feet wide."
No one was injured in the blaze, he said, though the fire damaged some trailers being stored in the area.
Crews from Salt Lake City, Murray, South Salt Lake and West Valley worked to control the fire in about 25 minutes. Firefighters were on scene into Monday evening knocking down hot spots.
