USU softball: Utah State softball to hold open walk-on tryouts
Utah State’s softball program will be conducting walk-on tryouts on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2:30 p.m. Tryouts will begin with a mandatory orientation meeting in the Taggert Student Center room 335. Those interested are encouraged to bring an athletic resume.
Only full-time students who are between their freshmen and junior years, according to NCAA eligibility time clock, who have played high school varsity softball will be allowed to try out.
If selected, a walk-on may receive many of the same benefits of team membership. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attending all practices and home games.
If you are interested or for more information or to resolve time conflicts please email assistant coach Chelsea Butler at chelsea.butler@usu.edu or call 435-797-8748. Walk-on candidates may also sign up at the orientation.
The Aggie squad closed out the 2012 campaign on the diamond with a 17-36 mark and were led by junior infielder Christine Thomsen. Thomsen posted a staggering .418 batting average to go along with a 66 hits and 22 RBI. USU returns 16 players from last years team.
Doug Hoffman is the assistant athletic director for Utah State University Athletic Media Relations.
