The United States men's wheelchair basketball team has moved to today's semifinal round, including co-captain Paul Schulte.

LONDON — The United States men's wheelchair basketball team has moved to the semifinal round after beating Germany, 57-46, in the first round of the elimination tournament. The Americans will face Australia on Thursday. When Australia and the United States met in the preliminary round, Australia came out the victor.

Co-captain Paul Schulte, 33, of the Bradenton Florida Stake, was one of the top scorers of the game with 10 points, including four free throws, and he also had several assists during his 20 minutes on the court.

Thursday's competitions also include sprinter Jason Smyth defending his gold medal in the 200-meter race in the T13 division. The preliminary heats are Thursday and the finals are on Friday.

Smyth, of the Belfast Northern Ireland Stake, won gold and set a world record in the 100-meter sprint last week. He is legally blind.
