USU football: Chuckie Keeton named Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week
Utah State football player Chuckie Keeton has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 2, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the third time in his career Keeton has received USU student-athlete of the week honors.
Keeton, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback from Houston, Texas (Hebron HS) set a single-game school record, completing 88.0 percent of his passes, in leading Utah State to a 34-3 season-opening home win against Southern Utah Thursday night. Keeton, who played just three quarters, was 22-of-25 passing for a career-high 304 yards and two touchdowns. Those 22 completions were also a career-high. Overall, he was the first 300-yard passer for USU since 2010.
After the first week of play, Keeton ranks second in the Western Athletic Conference and sixth nationally in passing efficiency (208.5), second in the WAC and tied for 15th nationally in passing yards per game (304.0) and second in the WAC and 22nd nationally in total offense (307.00).
Utah State returns to action Friday, Sept. 7, when it hosts in-state rival Utah in a nationally televised game on ESPN2 at 6 p.m.
