USU cross-country: McKenna and Litzsinger's top-five finishes pace USU cross-country at Aggie Invitational Saturday
Utah State men's cross-country junior Kyle McKenna placed third overall (18:49.73), while USU women's senior Alex Litzsinger finished fifth (17:58.79) at the Aggie Invitational held at the Innovation Campus Wellness Park Saturday. The men ran a four-mile race, while the women ran a five-kilometer race.
BYU's men (30) and Weber State's women (24) won the team titles in the first action at Utah State's newly developed home course. Weber State senior John Coyle captured the men's individual title, while Weber State junior Amber Henry garnered the women's top honor.
As a team, the USU women placed third (81) along with the men finishing the day in fourth place (99). Litzsinger was joined in the top 25 by freshmen Tylee Newman and Jacqueline Winterton who crossed the finish line in 10th (18:10.68) and 18th place (18:40.52), respectively. Freshman Tyler Roberts placed 25th overall (19:50.84) on the men's side to round out the Aggie top-25 finishes.
"The thing we tried to do with this course is make it runnable no matter what the weather was like and we ended up succeeding with all the rain we got last night," said Aggie veteran head coach GreggGensel. "I am excited to see the course held up. As far as the teams are concerned, I am really excited to find out where they are all at. I haven't really looked at all the results but while I was watching I think we are where we want to be. Some of the kids did what they were asked to do over the summer and some of them have a little work to do but we are moving in the right direction."
