SALT LAKE CITY — A dramatic year-over-year decline in July drops Utah's foreclosure rate to 26th highest in the nation. Data released Thursday by RealtyTrac Inc., based in Irvine, Calif., showed that one in 1,284 Utah housing units saw a foreclosure filing in July 2012 — more than 70 percent below last July — and down 11 percent from June.
Foreclosure filings in Utah have been falling during the past few months. In April, the Beehive state had the seventh highest foreclosure rate, with one in 419 homes seeing a foreclosure filing. Foreclosure-related filings include default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions.
Nationwide, foreclosure activity fell slightly — down 3 percent from June and 10 percent from last July. California, Arizona, Florida, Georgia and Illinois had the highest foreclosure rates in the nation last month.
