MURRAY — A Murray man was arrested for investigation of attempted murder and aggravated assault after police say he fired a shot at his roommate.
Gerald Steadman, 60, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday. Late Tuesday night, Steadman got into a verbal argument over work with the man he had been living with for the past six months, who is also his co-worker, and told him he was going to shoot him, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
The roommate ran into a back room and hid behind a door after Steadman pulled a gun out of his pocket, the report states. Steadman then fired a shot.
The roommate called police. When officers arrived at the home, 4195 S. 500 West, Steadman told them he was firing at the ground. But the bullet hole was as high as the door handle, according to police.
Steadman then said he "should have just shot (the roommate) because it would have been easier," the report states.
Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the incident.
