The 2012-2013 high school sports season is officially underway.
Murray defeated Taylorsville 4-3 in a preseason girls soccer game Tuesday morning, a bizarre 9 a.m. kickoff at Murray Park.
Lizzy Braby, Maddie Buckner, Tara Furlong and Megan Zullo all scored as Murray built a 3-1 halftime lead and then held on for the victory.
Abigail Black scored a pair of goals to lead Taylorsville.
Tuesday is the first day that girls soccer, cross country, girls tennis, boys golf and 1A baseball teams can begin their 2012 seasons. There are 18 total soccer games scheduled for today, including a handful of competitions in other sports.
Next Tuesday is the first official day volleyball can begin, with the football season officially kicking off next Friday.
