SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City man who stabbed and critically injured another man at a fast-food restaurant was charged with attempted murder Friday.
Joel Mejia Estrada, 28, stabbed a man about 10 times at a Salt Lake City Burger King on 400 South while he was waiting for his breakfast order, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court.
According to police the 25-year old victim was stabbed in the neck while Estrada stood behind him in a booth. The victim tried to take cover under the booth, but Estrada continued to stab him until fleeing the scene.
A friend of the victim recognized Estrada when he entered the restaurant. The friend said that he had been involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect a few weeks prior to the incident, the charges state.
Estrada was charged with attempted murder, a first-degree felony.
