Summary

By the numbers, when five bells tolled, 15 of the 35 balls of lead killed two men and wounded one on June 27, 1844, at Carthage, Ill. Now, 168 years later, several hundred gathered to pay afternoon respects of that anniversary.

I visited the Carthage jail over a decade ago. The guide showed us the room where the prophet was martyred and explained that up until recently before our visit, the blood stains were still on the floor. He told us that President Spencer W. Kimball More..
