Utah man seriously injured in Wyoming motorcycle crash

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — A Utah man was seriously injured Saturday after he crashed his motorcycle, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Jeffrey Clark Kulland, 51, of Roosevelt, was part of a group of motorcyclists that had driven from Vernal to Rock Springs, said Wyoming state trooper Barry Tippy.

Kulland was headed back to Vernal on state Route 191 about 6:20 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road about 5 miles north of the Wyoming-Utah line, Tippy said.

The motorcycle crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a guardrail, doing "significant damage" to Kulland's leg and foot, the trooper said. The bike then went into a slide and Kulland was thrown free, Tippy said.

A medical helicopter flew Kulland to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening, Tippy said.

Speed and alcohol use were suspected as contributing factors in the crash, the trooper said.

"There were full beer cans in one of his saddlebags and empty beer cans in the other saddlebag," Tippy said.

A citation is pending.
