Man injured in Utah County plane crash

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A plane crash in Utah County Thursday sent one man to the hospital with back and neck pain.

The man took off from Cedar Valley Airport near Eagle Mountain and was in the air for 20 to 30 minutes when he attempted to land his single propeller Ultralight plane, Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Eric McDowell said. Something went wrong, though, and caused the man to crash.  

"We are unsure if it was mechanical or a weather-related issue that caused him to get close on approach," McDowell said. "That caused the plane to hit the ground and flip over."

The plane's single occupant remained conscious and was able to talk to those who came to help him. He was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital.

"He's very lucky," McDowell said.

The crash is still under investigation and the Federal Aviation Administration was on-scene to examine the plane and determine the cause of the crash.
