DELLE, Tooele County — Officials have identified a 54-year-old California woman who was killed Monday morning on I-80.
Song Her Vang, of Elk Grove, Calif., was killed around 9:40 a.m. after the vehicle she was riding in rolled on westbound I-80, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Todd Johnson said. Vang was with her husband, Noutoua Vang, 64.
The couple was en route from California to Minnesota and were driving in a caravan of three cars, Johnson said. The Vangs were in the third vehicle.
Investigators said that Noutoua Vang was driving when the vehicle drifted off the road, hitting a road marker. The man then overcorrected to the right, then back to the left before leaving the roadway and causing the vehicle to roll.
Song Hang was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene.
Noutoua Vang sustained injuries to his neck and back, but was able to climb out from under the vehicle, the UHP reported. He later told his family at the scene that he had fallen asleep.
