Utah State track and field junior distance runner Stephanie Burt won the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:57.56 on Friday at the California-hosted Brutus Hamilton Open and Invitational at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field in Berkeley, Calif.

Overall, USU had 10 student athletes place in the Top 5 of their respective events at California as well as BYU's Robison Invitational in Provo.

"With these meets we wanted to get our athletes to keep making improvements," said USU head coach Gregg Gensel. "As we have told our athletes, the faster you get, the smaller the increment of improvement is. So any time you improve you are moving in the right direction. We had good performances today and we will have more of our athletes compete tomorrow in the invitationals."

Seniors Lindsey Spencer, Kim Quinn and Daniel Howell finished in second place in their respective events at the Brutus Hamilton Open and Invitational.

Spencer threw the hammer 60.15m (197-04), while Quinn and Howell clocked in times of 17:08.34 and 8:57.25 in the 5000m and 3000m steeplechase, respectively.

Sophomore Kenny Hamlett also placed second in the high jump clearing 1.75m (5-08.75). Fellow sophomore Kyle McKenna finished second in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 14:24.01. With the time, McKenna also moved up to No. 8 all-time in Utah State history in the event.

Senior Aaron Clements took third place in the 3000m steeplechase (9:04.21), while freshman Dallas Singley tied for third place in the pole vault at BYU with a vault of 4.30m (14-01.25). Junior Hollie Bosworth took fourth place in the 400m in California with time of 57.87, while senior Jen Schiess Noorlander also garnered fourth-place honors in BYU's high jump with a leap of 1.55m (5-01.00).

On Saturday, action at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field starts in the field events with the women's long jump at 10:30 a.m. MT, followed by running events beginning at 1:40 p.m.

At BYU's Robison Invitational, the men's hammer will kick off the day's action at 10 a.m., with the men's 4x400m relay ending the meet at 4:25 p.m. All times are subject to change.
