All 5 UVU men's basketball starters selected to All-Conference
CHICAGO — On the eve of the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Great West Conference Tournament, the league has announced 2011-12 All-Conference selections. Utah Valley University was well-represented, with all five starters receiving honors and head coach Dick Hunsaker named the conference's Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Isiah Williams and Geddes Robinson were both named to the first team, while Ben Aird and Holton Hunsaker received second team honors. Keith Thompson was an honorable mention All-Conference selection while Alfonzo Hubbard was named the league's Sixth Man of the Year and to the All-Newcomer Team.
"Individual honors are sprouted out of team success," said Dick Hunsaker. "I'm happy for those that have been recognized for their play."
Williams averaged 17.8 ppg in conference games to lead all players while helping UVU to a 9-1 mark and its second straight conference championship. He's averaging 15.8 per game overall on the season as the Wolverines are currently 20-11 heading into the conference tournament.
Robinson, who was an honorable mention selection last season, ranks as the top rebounder in the league for the second straight season. He is also among the national leaders, ranking 17th with 10.2 boards per contest. His 10.0 points per game make him the only player in the league to average a double-double.
Aird (10.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg) is a repeat selection on the second team while Hunsaker (10.4 ppg, 3.4 apg, 1.6 spg) was named the second team after receiving honorable mention as a freshman a season ago. Thompson is averaging 9.0 points per game and 4.3 rebounds, while Hubbard chips in 7.2 points and 4.3 boards.
The Wolverines are the top seed and will play on Friday at noon against the winner of Thursday's NJIT/Houston Baptist.
