UVU men's basketball: Isiah Williams named GWC Player of the Week
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Utah Valley University's Isiah Williams has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to two GWC victories last week. The award was announced Monday by the league office.
Williams, a senior from Chicago, Ill., scored 15 points in a 75-56 win over Houston Baptist and followed that up with 28 points in a 74-64 victory over Texas-Pan American two nights later.
"Isiah's overall game has been on the constant incline throughout the season. What a great way for him to end senior week," UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said.
In the game against UTPA, Williams became the fourth player in UVU's Division I era to pass the 1,000-point milestone, and the victory gave the Wolverines back-to-back GWC championships. UVU enters the final week of the regular season with 20 wins, including a school-record 13 straight, which is the nation's fourth longest active win streak.
UVU's regular-season finale comes on Saturday at North Dakota. The Wolverines will then travel to Chicago for the GWC Tournament where they've earned a bye into the semifinals and will play on Friday, March 9 at 11 a.m.
