Heading into the 4A state tournament, two teams have separated themselves from the pack and are the clear favorites. No. 1 Orem and No. 2 Bountiful, however, are on the same side of the bracket and would meet in the semifinals. The other side of the bracket is wide open, with many of the teams eying a potential run to the title game.
Here’s a team-by-team look at all 14 teams already qualified for the state tournament and four who are fighting still to get in:
Bonneville Lakers (10-11)
Coach: Jason Finder
How qualified: Hasn’t qualified yet. Finished in a fourth-place tie in Region 5 with Box Elder at 4-6, and will have a play-in game on Friday night.
Playoff opener: Box Elder/Bonneville winner vs. Olympus, Monday, 12:50 p.m. (At Maverik Center)
Best preseason victory: A 66-63 win against Woods Cross on Dec. 6.
Best region victory: A 67-59 win against Mountain Crest on Jan. 27.
