MILLCREEK — A man who police said brandished a gun at two woman and their dogs along the Neff's Canyon Trail turned himself into police Monday afternoon.
Police said Jean David Vigos was starting up the trail about 10:25 when he crossed paths with the women and their dogs on their way down. When one of the dogs approached Vigos, police say the man pulled a handgun out of his coat and threatened the women and the dogs.
Vigos told police the dogs were being aggressive and that he felt threatened. The dogs' owners disputed that claim, police said.
Unified Police searched the canyon for Vigos for about 3½ hours, using K-9 units and a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter.
Vigos turned himself into police about 2:15 p.m., said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. The man was released after being interviewed by police. Charges against Vigos will be screened by the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office.
Public access was restricted in the area during the search.
