Fresh off its Bay Area sweep, BYU is getting set to visit Gonzaga in a big West Coast Conference showdown on Thursday.
The Cougars are seeded No. 12 in Joe Lunardi's latest edition of Bracketology. He has BYU playing No. 5 Indiana in Albuquerque, with the winner possibly facing No. 4 Florida. The Cougars dropped one spot, from last week.
Meanwhile, Lunardi has downgraded Gonzaga from a No. 5 seed to a No. 7, while he has Saint Mary's dropping from a No. 6 seed to a No. 7.
The New York Times compares former BYU star Jimmer Fredette and NBA sensation Jeremy Lin.
"Much as the name Lin has become fodder for many puns, the name Jimmer became a verb during Fredette’s standout senior season at Brigham Young. Linsanity reminds some of Jimmermania, and both have been praised by President Obama and Steve Nash," writes Jake Appleman.
“'He feels like Jimmer in college,' Kings guard Tyreke Evans said of Lin. But Lin is a continuing phenomenon, while Fredette’s flame has faded thus far in the pros. All of this was evident in the Knicks’ 100-85 romp over the Kings on Wednesday. Aside from committing three turnovers in a 73-second stretch of the third quarter, a pass-happy Lin was excellent (10 points, 13 assists), while Fredette (8 points) made a minimal impact in his Madison Square Garden debut."

Lin is also not a rookie. Give Jimmer a good seasoning and he'll be just fine. Remember Lin doesn't have all the "to die for" skills either, but man he is smart. Jimmer will be the same.
If BYU beats Gonzaga this Thur., then they will be a 2 seed in the WCC tournament and ought to be a lock for the big dance. But Gonzaga has only lost 7 home games in 8 seasons! And they have already lost their one home game for this season! 4 of More..
Joe Lunardi's picks mean a whole lot more than the jealous whining of Utah trolls - at least Joe's picks are recognized as legitimate by a national audience.
