Spencer F. Eccles, former First Security Corp. chairman and chief executive officer, will receive the "A Giant in Our City" award from the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, June 28, at the Little America Hotel.
A reception for Eccles will be held at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. in the hotel's Grand Ballroom.
Eccles served as chairman and CEO of First Security from 1982 to 2000. Under his leadership, the bank's assets grew from $6 billion to more than $23 billion. When First Security was acquired by Wells Fargo & Co. in October 2000, Eccles became chairman of the company's intermountain region.
Eccles also has taken an active interest in community affairs. He is a trustee of Primary Children's Medical Center Foundation and president and trustee of the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation. He has been honored by numerous community groups and holds seven honorary doctorate degrees.
Tickets for the event are $120 per person, or $1,200 for a table of 10. For more information, contact the chamber at 328-5043.
