DUCHESNE 20, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 10: Wyatt Remund, Daniel Hanberg and Dylan Despain all rushed for a touchdown as Duchesne opened the 2014 season with a solid victory over Layton Christian to extend its state-record winning streak to 48 straight.

Girls soccer

REGION 5

ROY 1, BONNEVILLE 0: Katie Stimpson gave the Royals a first-half goal, and then Roy held on for the Region 5 victory.

OGDEN 3, BOX ELDER 2: Alexis Peterson, Mizuho Obayashi, and Jaimee Hansen each scored to lead Ogden in a game that saw all five goals scored in the second half.

REGION 6

CLEARFIELD 7, JUDGE MEMORIAL 1: Afton Barlow and Carissa Carbine accounted for two goals apiece as the Falcons remained perfect with the home victory.

HIGHLAND 3, BOUNTIFUL 2: Emma Thornton led the Rams to a region road victory with two scores.

WOODS CROSS 10, KEARNS 0: Kennedy Yost knocked in four goals while Alyssa Mann added another two scores as the Wildcats slid past the Cougars.

EAST 8, CYPRUS 0: Emma Earl and Claire Thomas scored two goals apiece and Abi Busath earned the shutout for the Leopards.

REGION 7

SKYLINE 7, MURRAY 0: Seven different goal scorers and two different goalkeepers kept Skyline undefeated as the Eagles handed Murray its first loss in the Region 7 opener.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 1, CORNER CANYON 0: Alecia Robinson assisted Olivia Hoddy for the only goal of the game as the Bruins gave Corner Canyon its first loss of the season.

TIMPANOGOS 4, OREM 0: Natalie Reynolds led Timpanogos with two goals as it had control of the match throughout. Carly Nelson got the clean sheet in goal for the Timberwolves.

REGION 8

SPRINGVILLE 5, SPANISH FORK 1: McKayla Montgomery notched the hat trick and Lindsay Johnson added two more scores to lead the Red Devils in the region victory.

WASATCH 0, TIMPVIEW 0: Timpview and Wasatch played to a 1-1 draw at Timpview on Thursday. Timpview had its chances for the win with close shots by Kamryn Worthington and Kesley Rumsey.With five minutes left in regulation McKenzie controlled the ball in the middle, beat a Wasatch defender and took a shot from 35 yards out that hit the cross bar. The Timpview defense was held strong by varsity players Savannah Pinegar and Ashley King and helped by Junior Wesley Baird and Freshman Katie Haskins.

ST. JOSEPH 5, TOOELE 1: Kate Weil tallied a hat trick and dished out two assists in the Jayhawks' commanding season-opening victory.

COPPER HILLS 4, WEST 1: Kaitlyn Sisler recorded a hat trick to lead the Grizzlies on the road.

DIXIE 2, UINTAH 1

DAVIS 8, WESTLAKE 0: Ireland Dunn and Regyn Youngberg led six different Davis goal scorers with two apiece to boost the Darts in the nonregion game. Abbie OBrien and Halle Moffat combined efforts for the shutout.

RIVERTON 4, FREMONT 3: Meagan Dougherty scored twice and Hailey Skolmoski and Kirsten Spencer each added a goal to lift the Riverton Silverwolves over the Fremont Silver Wolves.

SYRACUSE 3, TAYLORSVILLE 2

BRIGHTON 2, VIEWMONT 0: Brighton dominated the second half en route to blanking Viewmont. Sarah Fankhauser and Rachel Powley scored for the Bengals and Megan Turner got the clean sheet in goal.

LOGAN 2, GRANGER 1: Demi Lopez scored both of Logan's goals as it won its first contest of 2014 and handed Granger its first loss. Leslie Orozco found the net for the Lancers.

MORGAN 3, ROWLAND HALL 1: Morgan had a sluggish start but dominated the second frame as Haylee Gardner found the net twice and Tessa Vollmer added another goal to beat Rowland Hall. Lizzy Baer scored for the Winged Lions.

LONE PEAK 3, MAPLE MOUNTAIN 2: Jessica Smith, Natalie Lewis, and Cameron Tucker each scored for the Knights, who remained undefeated in a hard-fought victory.

HERRIMAN 2, BINGHAM 1: Kaylee Holt put the Mustangs on the board with a goal in the second half and then gave Herriman the win with a goal in the second overtime.

Volleyball

VIEWMONT DEF. BEN LOMOND 25-15, 25-16, 25-13: Emily Madsen had six kills, two aces, and one block and Katie Toole had four kills in the Vikings' sweep of Ben Lomond.

SKY VIEW DEF. ALTA 25-14, 25-20, 24-26, 25-14: Anna Olsen hit for .333 and had four block assists in a solid game for the Bobcats.

PARK CITY DEF. TOOELE 25-14, 28-16, 15-11: Tressa Buckland led with 9 kills, 5 blocks, and 6 aces. Sammee Thomas had 23 assists, Jo Henry had 10 digs, and Cameron Mercer had 8 blocks.
