Pam Blackwell, the director of the Sacred Hoop Healing Center and a teacher of meditation at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University, aims to help people find healing and joy through techniques like sandtray therapy and meditation.

"If you meditate like, 10 minutes in the morning, 10 at night, you're actually producing more joy," Blackwell said in a video interview. "There is a joy center which is in the upper left lobe of our brain, and you can actually generate more neurons."

Blackwell, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wrote a book titled, "Christ-Centered Meditation." She considers Christ her "guru," and said she enjoys teaching meditation as a spiritual practice that doesn't disrupt the theology of the faith.
