Hoopes Vision is known throughout Utah and the nation for its commitment to offering the latest and best in surgical vision correction. Hoopes Vision has been an early adopter of every major advance in vision correction technology over the past decade and a half, including blade-free LASIK, wavefront-guided and wavefront-optimized LASIK, ICL lens implants, and laser cataract surgery. Hoopes Vision is also deeply involved in clinical trials of brand-new technologies, helping determine the safety and efficacy of cutting-edge treatments before they become available to the public. This commitment to using the latest and safest technologies may be responsible for the continued growth in LASIK procedures at Hoopes Vision. Despite a worsening economy, the number of LASIK surgeries has continued to increase each year at Hoopes Vision.

LASIK, which stands for LASer In-situ Keratomileusis, is a procedure in which a thin corneal flap is created, and then the underlying tissues reshaped using a laser, in order to correct nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. After the laser treatment, the corneal flap is put back into place where it bonds without stitches or adhesive, leading to a fast, generally pain-free recovery, with most patients seeing very well by the day after surgery.

Since receiving final FDA approval in 1995, LASIK has helped millions of Americans to see better, free from or less dependent on glasses and contact lenses. However, the LASIK procedure performed today in a high-tech facility like Hoopes Vision is considerably more advanced than earlier versions of LASIK. Laser vision correction is a field where technology is constantly progressing. One of the most significant advancements in LASIK came in 2003, with the introduction of the Intralase(R) femtosecond laser, which made blade-free LASIK possible. Before the advent of the femtosecond laser, the corneal flap had been created using a small stainless steel blade called a microkeratome. The Intralase(R), in contrast, performs a safer procedure with a thinner, more uniform corneal flap. Hoopes Vision was the first practice in the Salt Lake City area to offer blade-free LASIK, and has performed more blade-free LASIK procedures than any other surgery center in Utah.

Further improvement in the LASIK procedure came in the form of wavefront-guided and, finally, wavefront-optimized treatments, using detailed maps of the patient's cornea in order to offer truly custom LASIK. Wavefront-optimized LASIK differs from the conventional LASIK procedure in that it helps maintain the natural shape of the cornea, reducing or eliminating the halo, glare, and other night vision issues that were one of the more common complaints with earlier LASIK procedures.

Hoopes Vision's confidence in the blade-free, wavefront-optimized LASIK procedure is so great that they offer a unique See Clearly Guarantee, the first of its kind in Utah - an assurance to the patient of great vision not only now, but in the years to come. Hoopes Vision also offers a complimentary, no-obligation consultation for patients considering LASIK or any other their other vision correction options.
