Barack Obama was re-elected Tuesday after winning several of the Eastern swing states.

I have always believed that voting is important and that every vote counts. Because of this, I signed up to be a poll worker for this election.
We worked from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., helping voters who stood patiently in line for up to two hours for most of the day. We had record breaking crowds.
As we were packing up at the end of the day, we heard the election had been called in Obama's favor. We had not even turned in our ballots yet and neither had any of the Western states. It didn't matter, the 11 Eastern swing states had already swung in Obama's favor, making mine and everyone else's vote in Utah and the Western states, totally meaningless.
I propose that in 2016, the rest of the nation stay home and just let the swing states duke it out since that's the way it works anyway. I no longer believe that every vote counts, and I seriously doubt I will ever vote in a national election again.

Props to the letter writer for being a poll worker. However, I wonder how much attention she's paid to previous elections. Presidential elections always come down to a few swing states because of the undemocratic nature of the Electoral More..
The letter writer obviously is speaking only about the presidential election. With Utah being the reddest state in the nation, according to the letter writer, anyone who doesn't vote Republican is wasting their vote which may not be an issue to More..
Your votes were not "totally meaningless". They were just easily predicted.
I can assure you that California's electoral votes were not meaningless, but they were a forgone conclusion.
The GOP candidate was More..
