As Sandy death toll and damage reports rise, need still great to help storm victims
Crews work to remove a damaged sign in the wake of superstorm Sandy, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in Philadelphia. Millions of people from Maine to the Carolinas awoke Tuesday without power, and an eerily quiet New York City was all but closed off by car, train and air as superstorm Sandy steamed inland, still delivering punishing wind and rain.
Matt Slocum, Associated Press
The most devastating storm in decades to hit the country's most densely populated region cut off modern communication and left millions without power as thousands fled their water-menaced homes. By Tuesday evening, the death toll from superstorm Sandy reached nearly 50 souls.
