Campbell comes home to Arkansas on goodbye tour

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Glen Campbell came home this week.

Hundreds of fans hollered and sprang to their feet to welcome the Country Music Hall of Fame member and one of Arkansas' favorite sons as the opening notes of "Gentle on My Mind" spilled into the theater.

The lyrics ran away from Campbell toward the end of the song, betraying his battle with Alzheimer's disease, but no one minded. The pop music icon pulled a couple of lines together and the crowd cheered on the 76-year-old as his goodbye tour brought him back to his native state.

Campbell was born near the tiny southwest Arkansas town Delight, where much of the Campbell clan remains. They reminisced about the old days and visited his parents' graveside.
