STILLWATER, Okla. — There was a little extra motivation on the defensive side for No. 19 Oklahoma State in its 84-0 blowout of Savannah State to open the season.

The Cowboys dedicated their performance to defensive coordinator Bill Young, who missed the game after an undisclosed medical procedure. It ended up being the team's first shutout since 2001.

Linebackers coach Glenn Spencer, who filled in for Young, said he kept encouraging his reserves not to let up and to finish off the shutout for Young.

In three years at Oklahoma State, Young has overseen a defense that has produced more turnovers than any other team in the country. The Cowboys have 108 takeaways over the past three seasons, 17 more than any other team.

Young will also miss next Saturday's game at Arizona.
