SALT LAKE CITY — Former Judge Memorial standout Harry Whitt, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound center who appeared in 23 games for Southern Illinois last season, is transferring to the University of Utah.

Whitt is expected to enroll in school this fall and join the basketball team as a walk-on. Because of NCAA transfer rules he won't be able to play in games until the 2013-14 season.

"I have great faith in coach (Larry) Krystkowiak and his staff," said Whitt, who noted several reasons for his decision to join the Utes. They include Utah being "an incredible place" and the opportunity to play in the Pac-12.

Whitt saw limited action with the Salukis after an injury-plagued year at the Fishburn Military School in Virginia. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds in 6.7 minutes per game at Southern Illinois. Off the court, Whitt had a 4.0 GPA and received a Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award for community service.
