The midnight premiere of "Dark Night Rising" in Aurora, Colo., proves there is a lot more darkness in America than just the movie industry.
Our entire culture is awash in a mentality of "we'll-do-anything-for-money." That mentality involves the U.S. going to war in any little, dark corner of the world at a moment's notice in order to keep American generals and armament industries flush with pride and profit.
That mentality includes exploiting any ethnic minority, any section of the workforce and even our own privileged young people trying to buy homes, all in order to fatten up our ethics-starved banking community.
That mentality involves a citizenry that elects slick politicians who promise the moon and deliver instead an increasingly lawless society.
During our summer patriotic festivities, we continue to imagine that we are the greatest nation in the world, all the while refusing to lift a finger to help clean things up in our local communities.
