The countdown to kickoff of the 2012 high school football season is less than a month away.
On Friday, Aug. 17, the lights will be glaring at 50 high schools across the state as the 120th season of Utah high school football officially begins.
In today's Deseret News we feature our statewide preseason top 25 rankings, with the Bingham Miners sitting atop the first rankings of the season. Defending 5A state champion Lone Peak checks in at No. 2, and fans should circle Sept. 28 on their calendars when Bingham travels to Lone Peak for a Region 4 clash.
Class 4A's two best teams — Logan and East — check in at No. 3 and 4 in the rankings, and they meet again on the final day of the regular season.
If you're a high school football fan, the Deseret News is your source over the next month to prepare you for the 2012 season.
Beginning July 29 with Class 1A and continuing through Aug. 14 with Region 1, the Deseret News will publish a preview for all 15 football regions in the state.
From July 30 to Aug. 14, in-depth previews for all 102 teams playing varsity football this year will be published at deseretnews.com.
