RIVERTON — Finding living individuals who descend from a common ancestor will be the topic of the keynote presentation by genealogist Tim Bingaman at a seminar at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, at the Riverton FamilySearch Library. Working with other descendants can possibly help uncover other information about sometimes elusive ancestors.
Bingaman, an accredited genealogist, was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and he has lived in Utah since 1980. He began to research his family lines in 1982 and has never stopped. After a three-year stint in the U.S. Army, he attended Harrisburg Area Community College and then received his B.A. in history from Brigham Young University. Bingaman taught high school in St. Johns, Arizona, from 1984 to 1989, where he taught U.S. and world history, geography, economics, and health. He has been an accredited genealogist since 1991 in mid-Atlantic states research.Bingaman is currently a reference consultant at the Family History Library.
After the 9 a.m. presentation, there will be two blocks of four classes. The classes from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. include: "Magnifying Glass, Wide-Angle Lens, or Telescope? Charts to Visualize Your Family Tree and Further Your Research" by Janet Hovorka; "Death Records" by Lorraine Bourne; "Multimedia" by Fran Jensen; and "Hitting it Out of the Park with Ancestry" by Biz Chase.
The 11 a.m. to noon classes include: "The Palatine Immigrants — Tracing and Locating German Immigrants to the Colonies in the 1700s Online" by Luana Darby; "Beginning Southern States Research" by Duncan Kuehne; "Sharing Time" by Andrea Schnakenberg; and "Are You My Mother? Finding the Maiden Names in Your Tree" by Bret Petersen.
Registration is not required for this free seminar. The Riverton FamilySearch Library is in the LDS Riverton Office Building at 3740 Market Center Drive. The facility is near the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 13400 South, just east of The Home Depot.
