SPOKANE, Wash. — The Utah Blaze are once again flying high. After two dominating performances against Kansas City and Chicago in consecutive weeks, the Blaze are currently resting in the fourth and final playoff spot in the National Conference.
The Blaze (8-5), with their playoff fate in their own hands, hit the road to take on division rival Spokane Saturday at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena at 8 p.m.
In the first meeting against the Shock (7-5), Utah put on an absolute clinic in its 84-63 win in Salt Lake City.
Utah has drastically revamped its defense in the past two weeks after suffering with the AFL's worst ranked defense through the first 12 weeks of the season. The Blaze will need a similar performance to slow down Spokane's 5th ranked offense led by quarterback Kyle Rowley who has thrown for 2,465 yards and 54 touchdowns — 22 of which in the past three weeks alone.
Both Brandon Thompkins and Adron Tennell have caught 20-plus touchdown receptions for the Shock.
