The Man of the House…Is In The Kitchen

Published: Friday, June 15 2012 10:07 a.m. MDT

Our take: In the Wall Street Journal today, John J. Edwards III notes yet another trend in America's shifting family structure: The division of household labor is undergoing a transformation. The days of a father coming home from work to find the mother has already prepared dinner are shifting and the makeup of household chores is starting to better reflect the diverse arrangements that keep the American family going. Maybe mom works. Or she's doing the yardwork. Maybe dads the one who actually enjoys cooking. Regardless of the why, Edwards notes that dads are more often primary cooks than in the past and certainly more likely to share the chore than their dads or granddads were.

On the coming special Sunday of parental recognition, the long-toiling chief chef in many families might get to take a well-deserved break, while others do the cooking for a change.
