American Legion baseball gearing up for action

Summary

The American Legion baseball season will start on June 6 for the Salt Lake Valley league and the northern Utah divisions have already started playing.

The American Legion state baseball tournament will be held from July 28-Aug. 4 at Oquirrh Park and Marshall Gates Field.

This year the American Legion Valley league has a total of 17 teams playing with the addition of West Lake, West Jordan and Price.

The northern leagues consist of 15 teams with the new addition of Fremont, Northridge and Woods Cross.

The seventeen and under league consists of 14 teams this year.

I miss American Legion baseball. These summer leagues are becoming more and more of a joke. This is what you are likely to see:

Teams hitting 10, 11, 12 and maybe 13 or more players.
Open substitutions
Canceled games (already)

At one time there were about 50 American Legion teams. Getting into the state tournament was an achievement as only 16 teams made it. The quality of play was better than high school with many college players that were young enough able to compete. More..

Totally agree with almost everything you say,except not ALL high school coaches were responsible for destroying two great leagues. I really miss those days when it was an accomplishment to make the legion or auto tourney.Even a More..
