Dick Harmon: John Beck gets a new start in the NFL with the Houston Texans

Beck looks back at his opportunities and shakes his head. He let the situation dictate to him and he tried to do too much with bad situations (offensive line, running back and receiver injuries) and he ended up hurting his chances to keep the job. "I should have accepted what it was and not have tried to make it what it was not," is how he put it.

This summer, Beck will join former teammates Cameron Jensen and Bryan Kehl and bring in former NFL All-Pro tight end Chad Lewis and Hall of Famer Ty Detmer with others to his annual football camp July 10 at Provo High. For more details visit the Internet site nxtlevelfootballcamp.com.

Today, Beck's attitude in Houston is different. He's using all he's learned to keep it real simple: Just let it rip — if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. He can only control so much and many other things are out of his control.

He's got gratitude in his heart. He's an NFL veteran, the Redskins have Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, and he's on to another adventure.
