Last year's best action film leads these movies that are new to DVD and Blu-ray this week.

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" (Paramount/Blu-ray + DVD + Digital, 2011, PG-13, three discs, $44.99). Tom Cruise stars in the fourth "Mission: Impossible" movie, and darned if it isn't the best in the series.

Former Pixar animation director Brad Bird ("The Incredibles") delivers the goods with this white-knuckle thriller that has Cruise and team (including Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg) on a rogue mission to find a terrorist and clear their own besmirched names.

You won't soon forget the now-famous sequence that has Cruise scaling the world's tallest building in Dubai. A real winner all the way.

Extras: widescreen; Blu-ray, DVD and digital versions; deleted scenes, alternate opening, featurettes, trailers (also on single-disc DVD, $29.99)

"Grateful Dead: All the Years Combine" (Shout! 1977-91, 14 discs, $139.98). The dyed-in-the-wool Deadhead devoted to recorded live performances will likely have most of the material here, though some of it is making its first official DVD release (previously available on VHS). But it's hard to beat this collection of the Dead's concert movies in a conveniently packaged collection of slimline boxes.

Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, and friends that came and went, jam in concerts performed in concert halls and stadiums from San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom to Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, covering 1974 to 1991.

There is also a heretofore unreleased vintage documentary, a new featurette and five previously unreleased live performances from 1987-91.

Quality-wise, the material and the technical aspects are hit and miss, but fans won't care. And all bonus features from previous releases are included; completists should feel fulfilled.

"Born to Be Wild" (Warner/Blu-ray + DVD + Digital, 2011, G, $35.99). This 41-minute IMAX documentary, narrated by Morgan Freeman, tells the story of orphaned orangutans and elephants, rescued and raised by two women who, naturally, strongly bond with the animals in their care.
