Joyce Darlene Shortt Michels1929 ~ 2012Our beautiful and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and sister, Joyce Darlene Shortt Michels passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 14, 2012.Joyce was born in her parent's home in Salt Lake City on November 26, 1929 to Matilda and Charles Shortt. She attended Woodrow Wilson grade school, Blaine Junior High and graduated from Granite High School; she then went on to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Joyce married the love of her life, Richard Michels, in Los Angeles, CA and their marriage was solemnized in the Hawaiian Temple on Feb. 5, 1955. Joyce dedicated her life to her family; she was a foster parent for over 41 years and President of the Foster Parent Association of Utah. She was always surrounded by her family, loved to laugh, and had a wonderful sense of humor which she passed on to her children. Joyce loved to bowl and was on a bowling league for years. She and Dad also loved to square dance. Joyce was active in the LDS church and served in numerous positions. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her sons Terry and Troy, and her daughters Melissa Ann and Tracy. She is survived by her children Cheryl, Tamara, Debbie, Bill, Todd, Trent, Melissa Nicole, Lanette, Shannon, Angela, Josie, Lisa, Liz, and Megan; 26 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Friday April 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winder 7th Ward, 4350 S. 1100 E. Family and friends may call Thursday April 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr. and from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment: Murray City Cemetery, 5490 S. Vine Street.
