Dirk Anjewierden, III12/31/26 4/12/12Dirk Anjewierden III passed away April 12, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dirk was born on December 31, 1926 in Groningen, Netherlands to Aaltje VanKomen and Dirk Anjewierden II. He came to the United States in May of 1950. He was a devoted husband and father and a faithful member of the LDS Church. He served faithfully wherever asked throughout his life including a mission in California and as a worker in the Jordan River Temple. Dirk married Esther Stein. Later divorced. He married Ivene Ellen Pessetto-Billis on Dec. 18 1975. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March, 24, 1977. Ivene and Dirk traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. They spent over 35 years together, rarely without one another. They dedicated their lives to each other and their children. Dirk served in the Dutch Army from 1946-1950. After immigrating to the U.S., he, Esther and Ivene owned and operated Zion's Mountain View Nursing Home for 25 years. Dirk also served for eight years with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office and as Commander for the Salt Lake County Search and Rescue Team. After his father died in 1960, Dirk cared for his step-mother and six younger siblings. He was affectionately known as Grandpa Dirk to his nieces and nephews. While he was known for telling others he was mean and ornery, he cared deeply for his family and worked hard to provide for them and was generous with all he had.Dirk is survived by his wife, Ivene, children: D'Anne Campbell, Karen (Ken) Davis, Dirk (Lisa) Anjewierden, Paul (Julie) Anjewierden, Maline (Dave) Johnson. Stepchildren: Susan Shreeve, Laurie (Rick) Weeks, son-in-law John Crus and his brothers and sisters.Preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ruth Louise, one brother and one step-daughter, Bonnie Crus. Dirk had 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.The family would like to thank Spring Creek Nursing and Rehab and One Care Hospice for their tender and loving care of our father. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 14, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Mausoleum.
