WASHINGTON — "Super" political committees can spend their money on nearly anything they want once their favored presidential candidates drop out of the race.
A super PAC supporting Rick Santorum called the Red, White and Blue Fund this week joins a legion of Republican PACs and may have extra cash on its hands now that its GOP pick is no longer in the running.
Federal election rules allow the groups to spend money on other candidates or causes. They cannot give their remaining money to campaigns.
Super PACs have spent more than $55 million on the presidential election so far.
