High school track: Davis girls, Riverton boys finish first at UHSTCA meet

TAYLORSVILLE — The Davis girls track team captured a first place finish at the prestigious UHSTCA Outdoor Championship with 119 points, while the boys finished in second place behind Riverton with 90 points.

Miller Crawford led Riverton with two first place finishes (shot put, discus), while Cole Lamborne contributed two more top finishes (400 meters, 200 meters) to nudge the Silverwolves atop the standings.

Davis nearly rallied for a surprise win, when Alex Heduist, Brayden Cromar, Logan Wood and Preston Johnson finished in the top five of the 3200 meter event to claim 26 team points.

On the girls side, the Darts managed to pick up 21 points in the 100 meter hurdles when Adelyn Jones and Sylvia Harrison claimed the top two spots. Christine Van Brocklin added three points with her sixth place finish.

Copper Hills finished in second place with 91 points, and were led by Heilala Havea and her top two finishes in the shot put and discus.

The Grizzles managed to earn a whopping 36 points in both categories with multiple finishers in the top 5.

East's Natalie Shields nearly became the first girls runner to break five minutes in the 1,600, but her quest came up just short finishing with a time of 5:01.45.
