OMAHA, Neb. — The national team director for USA Swimming says the Americans have enough experience and speed going into the London Olympics to eclipse the 31 medals won in Beijing four years ago.
Frank Busch was in Omaha on Thursday to promote ticket sales for the Olympic Trials, which will be held June 25 to July 2.
Busch said the United States could have its "best Olympic team" ever. Michael Phelps, who needs three medals to become the most decorated Olympian in any sport, plans to retire after London. Ryan Lochte is coming off two wins over Phelps at the World Championships.
The 16-year-old Missy Franklin is poised to become the face of American swimming on the women's side.
The record for American swimming medals at an Olympics is 52 in 1968.
