Gloria Chloe Cook Hicken1922 ~ 2012Gloria Chloe Cook Hicken, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully reuniting her with her sweetheart, Evan James, on March 26, 2012 at the age of 89.Born in Orem, Utah, the 10th of July 1922, to Mckinley and Chloe Reynolds Cook, she was the fourth of eight children. The family included five sisters, Renon, Elaine, Maxine Janice and Carol and two brothers, David and Mack. She attended primary and secondary schools in Orem, Utah and graduated from Lincoln High School. She went on to attend Beauty School and received her license. She had many happy memories of cutting, styling and perming hair and was still trimming her sisters hair just months before she passed.In October of 1942 she married Evan James Hicken for time and eternity In the Salt lake Temple. They were married 59 years and five children joined their family, Evan David (Susan), Donald Cook (deceased), Gary Cook (Kathryn), Diana Gloria (Irv), Robert Cook (Teresa), a posterity that has grown now to include 17 grand and 21 great grandchildren.Gloria was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She poured her heart and soul into these special "callings". She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent her days in service to her family and friends. She had a great love for the Book of Mormon and she spent every evening reading and studying the scriptures.She loved dolls from the time she was a child and spent her retirement years collecting and then making her own porcelain dolls which she shared with many family and friends. She was a talented seamstress and spent many hours sewing clothing for disadvantaged children and making dolls, quilts, afghans which she would donate to the Relief Society for them to distribute. She has been joyously reunited with her husband, Evan James, her son Donald Cook, her parents, McKinley and Chloe Cook, and her five sisters. Even though her memory was fading she held on to her testimony of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Our mother will be honored by her family and friends at a funeral service held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Suncrest Stake Center 130 North 600 West in Orem. A visitation will be held 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the stake center prior to the services.
