ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Vermont State Police investigators have blocked off part of the road leading to the home of a missing woman whose 2-year-old child was found alone in her vehicle a short distance away.
Police say evidence found near the SUV indicates the disappearance of 33-year-old Melissa Jenkins of St. Johnsbury could be suspicious. A friend called police late Sunday night when she hadn't heard from Jenkins.
Police are planning a news conference to update the status of their search at 11:30 a.m. Two fire department workers were seen walking along a nearby dirt road that's near a river.
Jenkins' child was turned over to a family friend.
Police say Jenkins is a science teacher at St. Johnsbury Academy and is a part-time waitress at the Creamery Restaurant in Danville.
