I agree with the many letters to the editor about the frustrating caucus meetings and the caucus system. We went to our caucus meeting and were also disappointed. I agree that we should scrap the caucus system and get a system that lets the voter actually vote for the candidates of his or her choice.
It was frustrating to not be able to vote for anyone but a person to go as a delegate and to vote for you, at a convention, county or state. What was really frustrating was that the delegate was not obligated to vote for you, but could vote any way he or she wanted.9 comments on this story
What a strange system the caucus/convention system is. Four thousand delegates are to vote in the convention for 2.8 million people any way they want. It is not fair or democratic in any way. We should not have such a complicated, closed party system, but just have a simple open system where the average voter can actually vote for the candidates of his or her choice. We do need a change from this complicated caucus system to a simplified more practical voter system.
The Utah State Legislature should make the change, as soon as possible, restoring freedom and democracy to our voting system.
