BYU SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER: At Provo, BYU southpaw Mark Anderson kept his record unspotted, but Seattle partially spoiled the Cougars' home baseball-opener Saturday at Larry H. Miller Field. Anderson improved to 4-0 as BYU improved to 7-8 after its 9-2 victory in the nightcap. However, Seattle (10-8) earlier defeated the Cougars in the opener of the twin bill, 2-1.

N. COLORADO 12, S. UTAH 5: At Cedar City, after putting up three runs in its first trip to the plate, Southern Utah saw the Northern Colorado Bears come back to take a 12-5 win on Saturday. SUU shortstop Bo Cuthbertson continued his hot hitting in the series, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.

BYU 53, ST. MARY'S 17: At Provo, the big non-conference victory over a top-tier opponent puts BYU 9-0 on the year with two heady Western Conference tilts on tap next week against Colorado State and Wyoming on March 22 and 24, respectively.

Men's golf

BYU TAKES 4TH: At Tucson, Ariz., the Cougars finished fourth in the 12-team National Invitational Tournament that concluded Saturday at Omni Tucson National Golf Club. Junior Zac Blair (11-under 205) and sophomore Justin Keiley (2-under 214) placed second and tied for third, respectively, in the individual competition to lead the Cougars.
