James Doyle Gardner1928 ~ 2012James Doyle Gardner, of Murray/Cottonwood Heights, Utah, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 in Kaysville, Utah at the age of 83. Our gentle Dad was born November 9, 1928 to Robert Vere and Vera Luella Gardner. He attended Jordan High School, where he was a cheerleader and participated in the drama club. Dad was a "true Beetdigger", and active alumnus. He also attended the University of Utah. He served a mission in South Africa for the LDS Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.He married Nina B Berry August 23, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple (later divorced but remained great friends) and together they had six children. Dad worked extremely hard in support of his family in the food service industry. He retired from the University of Utah.Dad had a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many callings including Youth Teacher, Scout Master, High Priest Group Leader, and Bishop.Dad had many talents and he could create anything. He was published in a trade magazine for a recipe that he developed. Family and friends loved his cooking, especially his stuffing. He was the most accepting, kind, charitable and loving person. Dad always looked out for the underdog. For those lucky enough to have known him, our lives are blessed.Dad is survived by his children: James Mark (Cecie) Gardner, Connie (Steve) Denton, Vera (Rob) Thomas, Karrie (Mike) Gomez, Bryan (Kristin) Gardner, 14 grandchildren, whom he was extremely proud of. His dedicated and loving sisters Donna Sainsbury, Claudia (Marlin) Shields, Sandra Musig, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ross, sister Faye, baby daughter Lisa and baby granddaughter Christina. His family wishes to thank the VA Hospital, Harmony Health Care, Meals on Wheels, the Kaysville Fire and Police Depts. and the Davis Hospital for their loving care of our father.Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Millcreek 8th Ward, 4558 South 600 East Murray, Utah. Family and friends may visit Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah and again Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights.
