GUARDS: Devin Harris returned to the lineup after missing a game with a stomach virus, and played well. He helped the Jazz through some listless overall play by scoring 17 points in the first three quarters. He had four of his eight assists in the fourth quarter. Raja Bell also returned after being sent home prior to the Chicago loss on Saturday. He did almost nothing offensively, but played solid defense, particularly against Rodney Stuckey in the fourth quarter. Speaking of Stuckey, he was outstanding in the first three quarters when he scored 25 of his 29 points.
FORWARDS: It was a steady night for Paul Millsap, who had 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Josh Howard was mostly quiet with nine points and two assists. For the Pistons, Tayshaun Prince looked old in scoring nine points and Jason Maxiell at least provided something memorable with two missed dunks.
CENTERS: Al Jefferson was amazing, especially considering the circumstances of playing the night after his grandma passed away. He was at his best in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of his 33 points. He even made his first career 3-pointer. Greg Monroe had a decent game with 14 points, but could have made more of an impact with better free-throw shooting.
BENCH: C.J. Miles carried Utah's bench with 15 points. He had 11 of them in the fourth quarter. Ben Gordon did the same for Detroit, scoring 12 of the team's 19 bench points. Miles' impact was much greater, as his 3-pointers in the fourth quarter helped the Jazz pull away.
OVERALL: As coach Tyrone Corbin said, teams typically come out sluggish in their first home game after an extended road trip. The Jazz struggled through the first three quarters, but dominated in the fourth quarter against a Detroit team that's better than its record indicates. Credit Jefferson and Miles for helping the Jazz pull away, and all wins are important when chasing a playoff berth.
